NOW Plastic Free Packaging is better for your Carrots

Date March 2021 • in Press Releases

At Policarta we know that to be successful you need packaging that preserves the shelf life of your produce. In a study conducted by ASTRA Innovazione e Sviluppo s.r.l, shelf life of carrots was compared in plastic vs paper packaging.

The study found at 6° C (~43° F) condensation was produced in the plastic package. This contributed to the onset of rot and mold. The carrots were not edible after 7 days.

At the same temperature, paper packaging allowed for better preservation. The carrots remained edible for the duration of the test, 14 days. The carrots exhibited some molding and browning where there were cuts and at the tips, but there was no onset of rot.

At 20° C (68° F), the aging process was much faster for carrots in plastic and paper packaging. Again, the plastic packaging produced condensation, contributing to the onset of rot and mold. The carrots were not edible after 4 days.
